Great eggs come from happy chickens.
And ours are ridiculously spoiled!
Meet the incredible ladies who lay your eggs. Each hen has her own distinct personality and story. Join us in celebrating these amazing birds and the hard work they do every day!

Describe your image

Beth
Plymouth Barred Rock
Beth was rescued from an egg-production farm. She is a terrible president for our new-chicken welcome committee, but she appointed herself as the leader because she is bossy and likes to put other chickens in their place - which is away from her. Her eggs are large medium-brown.

Alison
Welsummer
Alison is very sweet and a little skittish, but lays the most beautiful, rich, reddish-brown eggs. While most hens like to lay their eggs in nesting boxes, Alison will lay her egg in a quiet corner in the cool sand. It is such a lovely surprise to stumble upon one of her eggs when I open the door the the coop and see one of her gems nestled away from all the other nests and eggs.

Beatrice (Bea) Arthur
Show-girl Silkie
It is a rare treat to get one of Bea Arthur's lovely cream-colored eggs! This is primarily due to her being broody most of the time. She loves to steal eggs from the nesting boxes for herself and sit on them to try and hatch them, but won't lay any of her own until she snaps out of her broody mood.
Consider yourself lucky if you get that pretty little cream-colored egg!

Gertie
Olive Egger
Gertie is only a year old, but acts like a crotchety old lady with a bad-ass attitude. She doesn't like it when others come close to her while eating or get too close to her on her favorite spot on the roosting bar, but she has also caught live snakes and eaten them in one sitting. She doesn't share.
Gertie lays an awesome beige egg with dark-brown speckles. It's always a work of art!

Betty White
Chocolate Silkie
Betty White is a sweet little silkie to everyone, unless you're Tillie (see Tillie below). I am not sure what was said or done, but Betty White and Tillie have beef with one another. Travis, their rooster, has had to break up knock-down, drag-out fights between them over getting too close to one another when foraging. Being a silkie, she gets broody often, therefore doesn't lay too many eggs. When she does, it is a small light-cream colored egg.

Lindsay Lohen
Black Copper Maran
Lindsay came to us with her sister, Oprah Henfry, from a little farm up in Boling Green, Missouri. We expected a chocolate-colored egg from her, but her first egg wowed us by being dark brown with a spiral speckled pattern! She has since continued to lay her dark brown eggs. We think the spiral speckling was her inside eggshell printer working out the kinks and priming her ink cartridge for her future eggs!

Oprah Henfry
Black Copper Maran
Oprah Henfry arrived at Cedar Paddock Hobby Farm with her sister, Lindsay Lohen, from a little farm in Boling Green, Missouri. Oprah is bold and passionate about food, especially treats! She has no problem pushing others out of the way to get her fair share of snacks, but doesn't tolerate being held on my lap very well. While Black Copper Marans are prized for their deep, dark, chocolate-brown colored eggs, Oprah lays a traditional-colored brown egg.

Susan
Olive Egger
Susan used to be very shy and skittish around people and other chickens; however, she has come into her own in the past few months. Susan loves snacks (don't we all?) and will happily sit on my lap and eat snacks from my hand as long as the snacks don't run out!
Not only has she become more affectionate and friendly, she lays an amazing light-green egg with speckles!

Matilda (Tillie aka Tum-Tum Tillie)
Splash Silkie
Tum-Tum Tillie didn't walk into my life; she crash-landed, stubby legs first, and claimed the hobby farm as her kingdom. She hippity-hops when excited, has happy conversations with herself, and once ran off into the woods when she saw an umbrella. Her mortal enemy is Betty White for reasons unknown. Tillie refuses to be a basic chicken and lay her small white eggs in a nesting box. She's bougie and lays them in the fancy dust bathtub.

Vanessa
Easter Egger
Vanessa is less of a chicken and more of a neurotic roommate who pays no bills and screams when things don't go her way. She begs for food daily and throws herself on the ground like she's been wronged by the universe. She once tried to eat a cinderblock because it looked at her funny. She hogs the nesting box and clucks at random flowers.. Her eggers are rounder and usually tan, but sometimes, they look pinkish!
